The weather has cleared up and the track is dry and clean. In morning practice drivers from all over the globe were tearing up Irwindale’s big bank. High speed, big smoke, and rev-limited will be the rule of the day.
At the driver meeting it was announced that 39 drivers will be fighting for the 16 spots in todays tandem battle. 13 of the tanden spots are open to all competitors, while 3 are reserved for one driver from the UK, NZ, and Malaysia D1 series. This is to make sure that each of the global D1 series is represented in today’s event.
Tengku Djan (Malaysia) found the wall during practice and damaged his front driverside suspension. His pitcrew is working dilligently to repair his Toyota Corolla. Several other teams pitched in and they should have the car ready to get out on the oval for the main event.
Tanner Foust was unable to make repairs to his AEM Nissan 350z, so after tearing it up all week, he will not be driving in today’s All Star event. Fortunatly the crowd will be benefiting from Tanner’s commentary from the judges stand.
Sam Hubinette will be on the track in his new Dodge Charger and Rhys Millen will be drifting his Pontiac Solstice.
Ryan Hampton will be on track in his Chevrolet Z06 Corvette after making repairs late into last night.
Team Orange’s Nobishigue Kumakubo, and last night winner, Kazuhiro Tanaka will be out on track in their twin Subarus.
All the boys from New Zealand (Adam Richards, Victor Chapman, Sean Falconer and Darrren McDonald), who sat out yesterday’s event are chomping at the bit to shot the crowd here at Irwindale how drifting is done in the other hemisphere.
Darren MacNamara and Damien Mulvey from Ireland, joined by Phil Morrison from the UK will be representing drivers from D1UK.
Today is shaping up to be a fantastic event.
Please keep the results coming, who are the top 16?????????????/
