Samuel Hübinette took the wheel of a new drift ride at Southern California’s Irwindale Speedway over the weekend, as the much-anticipated Mopar Dodge Charger SRT8 made a successful competition debut in the D1 Grand Prix Series Finals and World All-Star events.

The Mopar Dodge Charger SRT8, built by the DaimlerChrysler Street and Racing Technology (SRT) division and NuFormz Racing, exceeded expectations in its very first drift battle, as Hübinette placed tenth in Friday pre-race qualifying for the D1GP Series Finals and advanced to the Top 16 of the D1GP World All-Star event, held on Sunday.

HÜBINETTE ON THE MOPAR DODGE CHARGER SRT8

The roar of the Mopar Dodge Charger SRT8’s 392 Hemi, and the plumes of tire smoke spewed by the Charger SRT8’s BFGoodrich G-Force T/A KDW tires wowed the always-packed crowd at Irwindale, known as the “House of Drift. Hübinette himself came away impressed by the power and performance of the Charger in its first drift competition go-round.

“We were amazed that I made it to the Top-10 in Friday qualifying with a brand-new car, Hübinette said. “[Team owner] Shaun Carlson and the guys from NuFormz did a great job. People were cheering for me a lot. The sound from the Hemi was blowing people’s minds. Everybody was talking about how cool the engine sounded and how much tire smoke the Charger created.

“I definitely see a great year coming up. We have some adjustments we need to make to the Mopar Dodge Charger SRT8 after this first outing. The NuFormz team is going to do some fine-tuning, and we’ll be ready next year to make another run at the championship.
