Put down the Xbox 360 controller and drift.

AKUMA’s World #9 by Terry Henderson

I had a chance to hang out with Stephan, the crazy French drifter who drove Mckinney Motorsports’ car over the 2006 Season. I asked him what his plans were for 2007. He replied, “I am building a Subaru GD chassis for drift competition. I have already had the chassis prepped, and I am about to begin the process of actually building.” Hmmm, other than Kumakubo’s Team Orange, there are no Subaru cars out there. Stephan is one crazy guy, and I think that if anyone can build one that will be competitive, he will. More to come on that one…

I have been spending a lot of time in getting my new D-car built up and ready to debut on December 30th. I have always wanted a Skyline, and when I got one I figured I would go all the way with it. I am reducing weight from the car right now and we are nearing the 300 lb. mark. I hope to eventually make it over 400 lbs. lighter than stock. Then we’ll be adding another 120 lbs. in a new roll cage designed by the best fabricator I know, Scott at SPD metal works.

I am in the process of gutting the rear doors, and hope to reduce another 65 lbs. with that. I couldn’t believe how much weight was pulled out of the front doors alone. Thank the lord that the cage is the last major thing to get done and it should be done by this next coming week. I just want to go out and drift. Being a part of this industry can be such a blessing and sometimes it can be a huge headache, whenever I start to fell the headache I notice it is usually because I have been drift-deficient. I can feel it in my blood and I want to drive.
