FORMULA DRIFT competition is open to all competitors worldwide.
2.1 FORMULA DRIFT MEMBERSHIP AND PARTICIPANT LICENSE
All drivers and crewmembers working in the pits, or other designated high-risk area, must be 18-years, or older, be a current FORMULA DRIFT member, and hold a current Participant I.D. License. Participants 16-18 years old may be admitted upon issuance of a Minor Participant I.D. License. Privileges may be revoked at any time for non-compliance with this rule book.
2.2 FORMULA DRIFT COMPETITION LICENSE
All FORMULA DRIFT drivers must be licensed by FORMULA DRIFT in order to compete in a Formula Drift Pro Championship event or Formula Drift Team Championship event. FORMULA DRIFT drivers that are ranked (having scored at least one competition point) in the previous championship season will automatically be eligible for a FORMULA DRIFT License the following year. All remaining drivers and any new driver wishing to obtain a provisional FORMULA DRIFT license (LICENSE) will have two (2) options. Provisional licenses will be valid for the season for which it was granted and for the number of events specified. Failure to perform competitively in a FORMULA DRIFT EVENT and/or acquire any competition points, will result in revocation of the provisional license.
2.2.1 OPTION 1: FORMULA DRIFT PRO AM SERIES [RECOMMENDED]
Competitors wishing to obtain a LICENSE must compete in a FORMULA DRIFT Pro Am Series. The number of LICENSES granted shall be dependent upon the total number of LICENSES allotted for the specific event determined by, but not limited to, the overall skill level of the competitors in the driver’s field and if FORMULA DRIFT deems the driver to be fit to compete on a professional and competitive level in the championship. FORMULA DRIFT guarantees that at least 1 license will be granted at each event. FORMULA DRIFT Pro Am Series competitions will be judged by officials selected through operating agencies approved by FORMULA DRIFT. Courses will be set up to replicate the speed and dynamics of a typical course in a FORMULA DRIFT Pro Championship event. Drivers eligible for or who posses a LICENSE are not permitted to compete in the FORMULA DRIFT Pro Am Series.
2.2.2 OPTION 2: LICENSING APPEAL
A Driver that believes that he/she is qualified to compete in the FORMULA DRIFT Pro Championship on a competitive level may submit a profile and resume to FORMULA DRIFT for review. After a reasonable review period, the driver will be notified by FORMULA DRIFT on the status of their request. Driver’s with insufficient experience or credentials will not be considered and will be notified that they must obtain a LICENSE through Option 1. Upon approval of the Licensing Appeal, a provisional license will be granted by FORMULA DRIFT.
Note: Drivers who forfeit their LICENSE may only be re-issued a new license via the Pro Am Series Option (Option 1) and are ineligible to pursue option 2.

This is called the Nick Hogan Rule.
Comment by C.B.Leslie — January 19, 2007 #
Actually it should be called the Pierre Kleinubing rule
or the Stephan Papadakis rule
or called nothing at all.
Hogan won a license. He didn’t petition. Though if he didn’t get a provisional I’m sure there would have been a petition.
Comment by Ryan Clemens is awesome — January 20, 2007 #
Nick Hogan has already received a provisional license for the 2007 season, so I doubt that he would need to petition Formula Drift for a license at this point…

Is he even worthy of us talking about him? Come on guys why the hell does everyone have to talk about that guy..Every F’ing forum has some comment about him. Are you fools jealous he has a license. People should spend more time worring about their own driving rather than bitching about some hack who is riding his daddys coat tails.

Also according to IMDB Nick Hogan is not even 18, so he may not be able to run until July 27th anyhow.

“Nick Hogan and had no relation to Sir Hulk would you even be talking about him?”
Yes I would, because no matter what he does, he’ll never earn the respect of the community. Why? Every respected driver worked hard to get where they were. HE DIDN’T! Formula D practically bent over backwards for “Hulk Jr.” on many occasions just to help him “get licensed”.
Unlike Nick Hogan, other drivers go to great lengths to make it to events. Other drivers do things like take out loans and work hard everyday just so they can compete an a competition to get a license! In contrast, Nick Hogan has (on more than 1 occasion) failed to even be a viable competitor. He sucks. He has the privilege of driving a near perfect drift car, and he fails. Fails consistently.
He didn’t earn his license. He bought it. He didn’t earn his track time. He bought it. Thank god you can’t buy respect from the people, or at least the people that real matters.

“Who f’ing cares”
Mr. Heather,
I do. I think that says a lot about the quality of the people that run Formula D. It’s very disconcerting when you find out officials will create whole events just so one ‘driver’ can get a license.
Comment by C.B.Leslie — January 23, 2007 #
No disrespect to C.B…and I do understand his point…but also understand that bitching about it on a website is’nt going to change the world…Meaning, we all know “Money Changes Everything” just ask Cindi Lauper. People are born into more fortunate situations everday…It just so happens this situation seems to bother alot of you..Understandable. But life goes on and so should most of you..Do yourselves a favor and stop being fools. But I guess if you want to nerd out on this thread go ahead.

I would make him compete like everyone else. I don’t care who you are. You start at the bottom. Just like the sumos, Just because your a huge fat ass (fill some of the prerequisites, id et: being able to drive a car) doesn’t make you qualified to compete at the pro level.

We can probably help you find a group of organized drifters. The “local” section of our website is dedicated to that sort of thing, it is still in its build phases.
If you tell us what region your are in, I am sure that someone can chime in and let you know where you closest drifting groups are.

The FIA Super Licence is a qualification allowing the licence holder to take part in FIA events as a driver. The licence is issued by the FIA upon request.
To qualify for an FIA Super Licence the requesting driver must already be the holder of a Grade A competition licence, and additionally meet the requirements of the FIA International Sporting Code, Appendix L.

Nick has caught some breaks, no doubt. But his provisional license was not handed to him. It took him THREE qualifier events for him to get his provisional.
If FD didn’t care about the integrity of their series, they just would have handed it to him on his first try. They didn’t. And now Nick has earned his provisionals.
Haters get a life.

I’d just like you to calm down for a moment and reread the three posts above your comment. Only the first comment was bitching about Nick. The other two were attempts to shed light on the situation.
You call us fools because we are jealous that he has a liscense.
UMM, You suck at life on this comment, heather, for two reasons.
One, the two posts above you don’t contain any remarks of a jealous nature.
and
Two, both of the comments above your bs were written by FD licensed drivers.

Heather, you are so damn ignorant. Ryan Clemens does have his license. He just got it this year and he happened to be one of the best drivers at the national pro-am event in November.
I give props for Hogan as well for legitimately getting his license. Formula D didn’t give him it. He went through the ranks just like anyone else had to.

Not to add any haste to this lovely discussion, but the rule change is a fair one.
For a sport that is evolving, and growing bigger and bigger, the format of it is going to have to change. One of the biggest reasons most people don’t make it into Formula D, is because you have to bring a MAJOR Sponsor into the series. I am sorry, but “Randon Joe” from some small town, who might be an amazing drifter, won’t be able to bring a major sponsor with him.
The Formula D Series is a big power hungry series, looking for as much money from Sponsors as possible.
The rule change is great, because it allows some people, who have the skill, and more importantly, the money, to enter the series. Pro Racing Drivers already have their HUGE Sponsors that will follow them.
Besides, what happens if “Random Joe”, get his License at a Qualifier event?? He isn’t going to be famous right away, so who is going to Sponsor him?? How is he going to Transport his vehicle, pay for tires, etc etc.

You need to qualify for the formula D pro am event by going to a local pro am qualifier. In your area you need to look up drift battle. I will be real… its harder then you think. I know a lot of people who think they can drift but go to a comp or just a simple practice on a marked course and look like a idiot. Any one can do donuts and manjis in a parking lot, anyone and do 30mph entries on there favorite turn on there favorite canyon road. But in judge completion you need to be more precise with your drift, run a good line. Not just brake traction for a couple seconds and be happy with the fact you didnt spin or or crash.
Comment by cam — February 11, 2007 #
Oh yea BTW Micheal, you might be better then nick. But your team sure as hell isn’t, unless your stone cold Steve Austins son and you drive for Pontiac.
There was a lot of drivers better then nick who didnt get there licences at pro am.

It really isnt the fact that everyone’s complaining about Nick Hogan (That’s the complete and correct way to spell his name) having his license handed to him, it’s more of the fact that everyone is complaining that he got a $200,000 drift car handed to him, and, on top of that, he wrecked it without much remoarse (I think that may be because he knows his dad can and will pay for it), the fact that the kid is trying to get his Formula D license before he even has his actual license is an accomplisment, he sucks at drifting because he hasnt even had time to practice real driving. I could really care less if I saw Nick at a drifting event up in Indianapolis, Indiana. Because as long as he’s willing to try to work to get to the top, then im okay with it, but, im still going to be a little ‘bit ticked off that he would probably have another multi-hundred thousand dollar vehicle that was built by actual drifting educated people. On the other hand too, He has had pretty much everything handed to him (i.e. that being that he has 3 Toyota Supra’s) and that he’s never really worked a day in his life (outside of when his dad forced him to for like half a day when and where Nick eventually gave up because he just couldnt do it). Whereas people like me out of little towns and stuff that pretty much grew up in a mediocre class family and had to work for the money we would eventually dump into our cars or just the gas money to get to the event. Comparitively he has had everything handed to him.

Nick should not be allowed to Drift.. look what his careless driving has done to his so called best friend.
He needs to do his community time after jail.
He should think about what he caused and never should be allowed to be part of the Drift world.
Drift teams sould NOT allow him back.
It will be shame on Drift if they allow him at any event.
