Cutting through the field of high paid factory / works teams, Chris Forsberg’s independent drift team that bears his name took top honors in Atlanta for Round 2 of the Formula Drift Pro Championship. Combined with his Top 16 finish in Long Beach , Chris takes 2nd place in the championship point’s race and leads the Tires.com Triple Crown.
Chris’ Nissan 350Z blazed through qualifying leading the pack through most of the session. AEM Works driver and last years Atlanta winner Tanner Foust laid down a near perfect run in his final attempt bumping Chris back to 2nd out of 32 pre-qualified teams. With the help of Chris Forsberg Racing’s crew chief Kevin Wells of LS Auto in Baldwin Park , CA they were able to keep the powerful Nissan Titan V8 motor at its best all afternoon leading into the Top 16 tandem runs.
Going into tandem, Chris continued his full scale attack on the field beating some of the best drivers in the US . The 350Z slid past factory GM drift champion Rhys Millen, factory Ford driver Ken Gushi and Falken Tire works driver and Irish import Darren McNamara on his way to the podium. “We’ve finally got the 350Z working the way we need it to. It has taken a lot of work to get to this result and I couldn’t be happier. said Chris. “With the help of the new Maxxis Drift tire and the power of the Titan V8, I think we’ve got the right combination to stay on top.
While this is Chris’ first win of the season, it was Maxxis Tires first win ever in the sport, “That Chris Forsberg is able to win against top drivers like Ken Gushi, Rhys Millen, and Darren McNamara really proves how talented he is. said Brandon Bentley , automotive sales representative for Maxxis. “Everyone at Maxxis is really proud of his performance, and we’re elated with this victory. Chris runs Maxxis’ new MA-Z1 drift tires special made for massive traction under extreme heat that is unique to the sport of drifting.
The team’s next stop will take them to Summit Point , West Virginia for round 3 of the Formula Drift Championship on June 1st – 2nd.
