Perfect day for drifting saw 500 spectators and over 20 cars including Professional Drivers from Enjuku Racing and NM Drift participate in the first round of the NM Drift Series. Supporting vendors such as AJ Tires, Nitro 2 Go, SpeedDreams, Next Level Customs and Synergy Coatings created an event atmosphere on the Midway with their displays of products and automotive enthusiasm for the sport of Drifting.
Trophies and gift certificates for more parts were courtesy of Enjuku Racing who also changed a ton of tires for the competitors. Drivers had 3 courses to choose from. One course ran through turns 1-6 on the south side of the Sandia Motor Speedway while course number 2, the competition course, was run through the ovals. You will have to see it to believe the great driving these amateurs did in the first ever judged drifting competition in NM.
Judging these competitors was Head Judge Ryan Hampton, assisting Ryan was judges John Yim, Ben Reyes, Bill Sherman and Caio Campos. Big thanks to these guys as they had the difficult decision of picking the winner.
Winning the first ever NM Drift Series Round 1 was Adam “Skippy” McMahon from Colorado representing Mac Autosport. Coming in second was Aaron Loosey from San Antonio, TX and rounding out the podium was Jason Slee from Colorado also. Big congrats to these guys for standing out and showing quality drifting and skill. Coming in 4th and earning an advanced license was Kyle Armstrong. The top 4 were issued Advance licenses for Drift Day and are allowed to practice tandem and compete in tandem considering all safety requirements are met.
Thanks from NM Drift for starting the season off with a great event at Sandia Motor Speedway. Dont miss Round 2 for more Amateur competition and Professional Demonstrations.
