editors note:
I spent some time on the phone with Caleb Garret from NOPI after the last rulebook post here on DriftLive.com started a bit of a flame war. He expressed to me that NOPI is constantly working to make sure that the NOPI drifting series caters to drift enthusiasts. If you want to communicate with Caleb outside of posts in the comment section, send an email to him caleb@nopi.com.

NOPI DRIFT GENERAL RULES OVERVIEW
1.1 Basics:
In the simplest of terms, one might define drifting as a speed/style contest between vehicles. NOPI DRIFT offers drifting for all ranges of vehicles and all skill levels of drivers. Vehicle- type and modification levels are largely unimportant. Qualified safety and technical inspectors are on hand at every NOPI DRIFT event to help guide the less experienced drivers through the program, offering counseling and instruction on the safe preparation of the vehicle and to help ensure that all vehicle’s competing meet all safety requirements. Such programs help keep illegal drifting OFF the streets and in a controlled environment, where it belongs.
Adding to the excitement is the extensive TV, WEB and print media coverage, the cash awards are paid out at each event across the country. All drivers must of course have a driver’s license to compete and extensive safety inspections take place prior to competition at all events. Contestants are urged to study and know the equipment and safety requirements before they head to a NOPI DRIFT event. The dedicated, purpose-built racecars have extensive safety and equipment guidelines, chassis and other equipment credential requirements. NOPI DRIFT has gone to great lengths to structure a series and rules so as to be fair and equal to all of the drifting competitors. Where appropriate, extra effort has been given to making drifting affordable at the expense of the advancement of technology. It is hoped that all drifters will take an equal share of responsibility in ensuring the positive image and future of the sport by in turn ensuring full compliance with all rules and requirements as set forth in this Rulebook and in all other documents governing safety and classifications. We all must recognize that we are under the close scrutiny of the sponsors and manufacturers who all have a vested interest in maintaining a safe, professional and competitive environment. Such sponsors have made it possible for NOPI DRIFT to offer Championship Drifting, where in contestants can compete throughout the course of the season for a share of a large payouts and Championship awards and privileges. Drifting offers a safe, exciting way to compete with no consideration to income, race, sex, creed, color or brand preference. NOPI DRIFT provides a fair and level playing field for all competitors. It is a safe alternative to unlawful street displays of speed and style contests and hence parents are encouraged to educate their young drivers about the benefits of competing in this structured environment.
1.2 How to begin drifting:
Virtually any type of RWD car can compete, from stock to fully built (by NOPI DRIFT rules, of course). To begin drifting with NOPI DRIFT, a driver needs only to bring a car that has met all the proper and applicable safety and technical guidelines. What are those guidelines? NOPI DRIFT Tech people will tech your car for you at every event. If something’s missing, you’ll be given a chance to fix it and come back another time. The most important pre-race preparation you should do is to get a copy of the NOPI DRIFT Rulebook and study it cover to cover. In it, you’ll find guidelines that’ll help you determine how you want to build your car. In any case, study the Rulebook and follow it to the letter. On race day, drivers need to show up to the track early, have their car tech inspected then proceed to the pit area. It’s a good idea to bring tools, a cooler, and a small canopy/tent for shade, a jack and a friend to help you. In any case, early arrival is key to secure enough time to prepare to drift and get through Tech. Always show up 1 hour early. Since NOPI DRIFT Tech Inspectors will tech the vehicles on race day, the aforementioned studying and proper construction of the car will ensure that you are safe and competitive. When drivers are called to the track, you’ll need to go to the Staging Area and line up with all the other cars. NOPI DRIFT officials will direct you on to the track. If something breaks or your have problems, immediately pull over to the side so you don’t drop oil or debris for those behind you, you’ll be far more popular this way. Remember to watch for your competitors as you turn to exit the track. On the return road to the pit area, remember not to speed, Burnout, or drive in an unsafe manner or you’ll be asked to leave. Again, the most important part of drifting is the advance preparation. Know what your car needs, know the rules, know the track layout and listen to the PA Announcements at the track. Preparation is the key to enjoyment.
1.3 Protest Procedures:
Every effort is made to properly inspect all cars for proper equipment. From time to time, something may pass through Tech undetected, or a team may have personal knowledge of illegal equipment or safety deficiencies. If you have personal knowledge of a participant using illegal/unapproved equipment, it is your obligation to report this infraction. All protests, must be filed at least one day in advance of scheduled Eliminations, and must be done in writing one hour after the finish of round two qualifying, and can only be done by teams competing in the event. Protests must be accompanied with the corresponding fee, paid in “Cashâ€? only, as outlined below. Petitions shall not be examined. The protest fee shall be forfeited, minus technical fees of $100 per hour, to the car owner should the protest be deemed to be without merit or if the car is found to be legal. NOPI DRIFT reserves the right to reject any protest filed that it determines in its’ sole and absolute discretion is deemed to be frivolous or intended to harass another competitor, or is to otherwise gain some unfair competitive advantage. “Complaintsâ€?, “tipsâ€? or other advisories outside these guidelines do not constitute valid protests, and hence, shall be disregarded. A protested engine/part must be assembled / disassembled by the car owner/crew members. Refusal to disassemble an engine or protested item upon demand will result in removal from competition plus appropriate fines, loss of points, etc., may be imposed at Tech Directors discretion.
The fee schedule is as follows:
$100 any fuel protest
$150 any protest requiring any car to go back through tech inspection.
NOTE: Any vehicle found to be out of compliance with any protested topic:
1st Offense: $100 fine and loss of all points accumulated at that event
2nd Offense: $500 fine, loss of all season points.
The mechanical devices NOPI DRIFT uses to measure are the standards by which eligibility is verified. In short: NOPI DRIFT’S devices are the final determination.
1.4 NOPI DRIFT’S Right to Impound:
NOPI DRIFT reserves the right to impound any part or vehicle, or any other items used in concert with participation, owned by or in the possession of any competing team, including items or vehicles that may have been directly or indirectly had an influence on an accident, solely at our discretion, for the purposes of testing the vehicle, its’ parts or equipment, to determine compliance with safety and classification guidelines. Any parts impounded will be returned, with a complete written synopsis of our findings from NOPI DRIFT.
1.5 Decisions by the Event or Race Director:
The Tech Director and or Race Director may alter, amend or waive any rule or specification for any single occurrence or for any good reason without advance notice and with no other obligations to anyone or any organization. Further, the Tech Director and or Race Director have the sole and irrevocable right to determine eligibility of a competitor or team, make decisions with regard to what constitutes fair competition, inappropriate or unsportsmanlike conduct, threatening behavior or what constitutes a violation worthy of disciplinary action and what that appropriate discipline may be. Drifting is a privilege, not a right. NOTE: Entrance into any NOPI DRIFT sanctioned event means that drivers, crewmembers and participants agree with ALL rules, procedures, and guidelines. Teams do not have the right to protest the rules, only to protest against those teams believed not to be in compliance. With regard to equipment or race procedures, decisions on site by the Tech Director or Race Director are final. No review or appeal process the day of the race so as to ensure finality to an event. To provide an appeals-process would result in the inability to effectively conclude any event. The Event Director, Race Director, or Tech Director must retain final authority in disqualifying parts, competitors, equipment for violations of the rules, failure to comply with directions, or for any technical or behavioral infraction. Any Driver or Team who refuses to tear a vehicle or component down for inspection upon the request of a NOPI DRIFT Official will be dis-qualified, loose all points for the event, and loose an additional 20 points for track mis-conduct. Further more the NOPI DRIFT Tech Director will have final say in determining the eligibility of the vehicle. NOTE: Any cars that are borderline with regard to safety issues, or if any modification is questionable, NOPI DRIFT, at our discretion, may choose to enforce the next most stringent safety guideline. If a competitor wishes to experiment with a new design that is not necessarily covered in the wording of this book, a full schematic/drawing should be provided with details on motor, chassis, anticipated weights and power adders “PRIORâ€? to beginning construction. Those teams that do not comply may be excluded from competition solely at the NOPI DRIFT’S Tech Director’s discretion. His decision is final for the purposes of competition during that weekend and can be appealed only after the event. In any case, NOPI DRIFT reserves the final right to adjust points, but under no circumstances will winnings be asked to be returned or redistributed. A fine and penalty system is in place and shall be applied where appropriate. NOTE: The Race Director has ultimate jurisdiction with ALL issues relating to competition activities.
1.6 Substance Abuse Policy:
NOPI DRIFT is a zero tolerance organization. If any driver, team member, or any person working on or near a competitor’s vehicle is found to be consuming alcohol or found to have any measurable blood alcohol content, he/she shall be deemed under the influence and be banned from all participation in the event. NOPI DRIFT reserves the right to determine that a person is unfit for competition, without measurable blood alcohol content. Further, no team member in uniform is allowed to consume any alcohol or be under the influence of any alcohol at any time during an event. All members wearing crew uniforms shall be assumed to play a key role in the preparation of the vehicle and the assurance of compliance with safety guidelines and be subject to these terms and conditions.
1.7 Participant Conduct:
Any participant who, at the sole discretion of NOPI DRIFT:
1) Verbally abuses/threatens any other person.
2) Uses vulgar or derogatory language.
3) Engages in unsportsmanlike conduct.
4) Creates a condition that is hostile, unfair, unsafe, or is out of order.
Violators shall be subject to immediate removal from the event and further disciplinary action. NOPI DRIFT reserves final judgment as to what type of behavior, conduct or language shall be deemed as hostile, unfair, unsafe or with issues of unsportsmanlike like conduct and as to what constitutes threats or abuse. NOPI DRIFT’s decisions are final, without place for appeal or further discussion. The authority of the Race Director and Event Director is absolute. Competitor or Team misconduct will result in a deduction of 20 points from the drivers total points. Competiton questions must be directed only to the NOPI DRIFT Race Director who is on site to assist you. Protests, discussions, or other dialogue can only take place with a maximum of two team members present and both team members must be in uniform. Such discussions will be held in a private forum, not in large groups. No protests will be honored, examined or reviewed in any way on the day of Finals. Petitions will not be examined.
1.8 Implied Consent Clause:
All NOPI DRIFT participants and attendees who are in any way engaged or associated with competing teams shall recognize that their presence at a NOPI DRIFT event “implies consentâ€? to search or inspect any vehicle engaged in competition, any equipment or support vehicles used, or in the proximity of competition vehicles at any time for any reason by any NOPI DRIFT or track official. NOPI DRIFT shall, from time to time, choose to examine the inside of tow vehicles, trunks of cars competing, inside splash panels, or anywhere else we may deem appropriate so as to ensure that all safety and classification guidelines are being strictly followed. Any team refusing immediate and unconditional access to an area after an NOPI DRIFT request shall result in the team’s immediate removal from the event, loss of all points and may result in banishment from competition for a period solely at NOPI DRIFT’S discretion.
1.9 Implied Confidentiality clause:
For primary tech inspection, NOPI DRIFT shall only inspect vehicles at an appropriate Technical Inspection area, to be designated at our discretion. There are those competitors who wish to keep certain aspects of their motor “secretâ€? from other competitors. NOPI DRIFT shall not reveal any trade or technical secrets to a competing team, even when a team may be found to have illegal equipment. Although details of the reason why a part was deemed illegal may be common knowledge, in light of NOPI DRIFT’s new protest procedure, certain things may not be common knowledge. Competitors are assured that any details revealed to NOPI DRIFT’S Technical Staff or Directors shall not be revealed to other teams for any reason whatsoever. However, since all competitors must pass through tech, items that can be visibly seen during the normal inspection may be seen by other people as well. NOPI DRIFT cannot and will not make special allowances to allow competitors to Tech in secret or away from other people in the Tech area. Further, disciplinary actions past or pending shall remain confidential.
1.10 Rain Policy:
NOTE: NOPI DRIFT and our track partners have a “NO REFUNDS policy. NO REFUNDS at any time for any reason for anyone under any circumstances. If you enter the event, you do so at the risk of a rain out, curfew cancellation or early suspension of activities. NOPI DRIFT reserves the right to alter the schedule solely as we see fit. The event competition/continuation policy is as follows:
When rain appears imminent: NOPI DRIFT, at our discretion, may choose to alter the event schedule, including eliminating practice rounds, qualifying rounds or changing the run order rotation. Notices of changes shall be posted when time permits. Questions on site should be directed to the Race Director in the Tower. All competitors are advised that, when threat of weather is great, they should treat every run as if it is the most important run of the day.
1.11 NOPI DRIFT’s Fine Policy:
NOPI DRIFT may, at its discretion, fine any competitor or team for the actions or failures to comply with guidelines as outlined in this rulebook. All fines must be paid in cash or certified funds at least 10 business days prior to the next event to restore eligibility, provided a disciplinary suspension is not pending or in effect. The schedule is as follows:
1st Offense: $250+ possible loss of points and suspension of privileges of up to 6 months
2nd Offense: $500+ possible loss of points and suspension of privileges of up to 1 year
3rd Offense: $2,000+ loss of all points and mandatory suspension of privileges of at least 1 year.
2.1 How the drift part of the event is run (subject to change depending upon venue, weather, etc.)
All drivers must pay for and receive their tech card immediately upon entrance to the event. Report immediately to Safety Inspection after unloading cars from trailers. Cars will not be inspected on trailers. After being inspected for Safety equipment, immediately proceed to NOPI DRIFT Tech tent where competitors will receive all series decals and contingency stickers. All cars must have series decal in accordance with guidelines distributed at event and specified in this Rulebook. NOTE: NO car will be allowed to complete Tech without the correct series decals. All drivers must show a valid driver’s license to compete. All drivers must show valid competition license before competing. After your car has been inspected, we recommend you take your car to the scale, to insure your weights are recorded for judging purposes, according to the track scales. Upon verifying your weight, return to your pit area and listen for track calls. Report to the staging lanes only when you have been called to prevent congestion in the staging area. There are no guarantees as to how many hot lap passes you’ll receive. The earlier you show up and get through Tech, the quicker we can get started. NOTE: NOPI DRIFT reserves the right to change the day’s schedule to meet TV, weather or track curfew deadlines.
2.3 Staging:
Points cannot be awarded until competitor self-starts from the starting line. (Car must head onto track under it’s own power) Cars can be pushed through the staging lanes, but must self-start and self-drive to starting line.
2.4 Qualifying:
Car must be in legal trim, including driver credentials, for run to be counted towards qualifying position. Competitors cannot drive more than one car at any event. No driver can qualify multiple cars in the same event without withdrawing the first vehicle qualified in that class. Drivers can use a back up car in the event of catastrophic failure, but the back up car must pass tech and be qualified before the end of qualifying. 32 qualifying positions are up for grabs at each event. Ladders are set to NOPI DRIFT Pro ladder guidelines (i.e. #1 competitor races #16, #2 races #15, etc.) A driver may qualify with one car, but if that car breaks, he cannot substitute a non-qualified car, nor can he use a car that does not meet the event guidelines. NOPI DRIFT reserves the final right to determine whether the car is a legitimate event contender. An individual car cannot be used for multiple entries/drivers. In the event a field is not full with qualified cars, NOPI DRIFT reserves the right to add eligible drivers/cars to the field. These cars will be placed randomly at the bottom of the qualifying order.
Driver must have a valid run recorded in order to be placed into Eliminations.
2.5 Hot Laps:
NOPI DRIFT competitors are expected to be prepared to drift when arriving at the event. In accordance with this, NO HOT LAP runs are allowed before vehicles and drivers have passed through tech. In fairness to all competitors, the following penalty will be enforced for violation of this regulation. Hot lap prior to completing tech inspection: Team and Car are eliminated from competition that weekend. There are NO exceptions to this rule. All teams will be offered the same amount of track time each weekend for hot laps.
2.6 Alternates:
Once qualifying has concluded and a ladder has been established, pairings will not be changed. However, should a qualified car and driver be unable to make the first round of Eliminations, an alternate may be inserted in their place. Under normal circumstances, all first round points and cash awards will remain with the qualified driver. Alternates will not be eligible for any round points, regardless of how far they advance past the first round. The cash awards earned by the alternate shall be paid less the amount paid to the original qualifier. NOPI DRIFT reserves the right to call alternates only prior to the start of Eliminations.
2.8 Scales:
NOTE: Scales are used at NOPI DRIFT events for the sole purpose of obtaining a vehicle and driver weight prior to competition for judging data to be used with Drift Box. This will be done during Tech Inspection.
2.9 Fuel checks:
NOPI DRIFT will perform fuel checks at random. Fuel checks will be performed with calibrated equipment. All measurements of specific gravity and chemical content will be compared with the manufacturer’s specifications on the fuel. Competitors must state exactly what fuel they are using, which shall be noted on the documentation. Fuels must be used right out of the can with no additives, no mixing, and no deviation from condition as delivered. “Any variationâ€? shall be grounds for disqualification and potential points penalties, which may include loss of all points accumulated up until that event, no matter how late in the season. Fuel checks shall be performed without advance notice. Points may be deducted at NOPI DRIFT’S discretion as outlined in this section.
2.10 Competition Numbers/Crew Access:
NOPI DRIFT assigns numbers to each competitor. Such numbers shall be affixed to the sides of the rear wing or on the rear quarter glass, at the competitor’s discretion. NOPI DRIFT is the only source allowed to designate numbers for competitors. Car numbers on side glass should be 6â€? tall so they can be clearly read by the tower staff. Front glass numbers can be 3â€? tall. Competitors are allowed to use their FD/D1 number, but all competitors must register as a NOPI DRIFT member at the beginning of the year, at which time car numbers will be assigned. For 2007, crew passes are included in the entry fee of race teams. All entrants must pay fees or admission.
2.11 Tow Vehicles:
Must have car number/driver name clearly marked on the front windshield and what ever side the judging tower is on. All crewmembers must be fully inside vehicle at all times while vehicle is in motion. Tow vehicles should be equipped with a fire extinguisher and/or fire blanket. No persons or parts of persons should hang out of tow vehicle or ride on outside of tow vehicle while vehicle is in motion.
2.12 Driver’s Licenses:
Drivers must have proper credentials to compete in NOPI DRIFT EVENT’S. Drivers must show a valid copy of their NOPI DRIFT/FD/D1 Competition license to compete. In addition, all drivers MUST be a member of NOPI DRIFT to compete. Membership cards must be in your possession and presented at Tech. If you show up without a license, regardless of whether or not we’ve seen your license before, it shall be assumed that no valid license exists. All drivers are strongly encouraged to acquire their competition license prior to attending any NOPI DRIFT event. All non-licensed competitors must show a valid Driver’s License in order to pass Tech and be eligible to qualify for a NOPI DRIFT license during a qualifying event.
2.13 Appearance standards:
All crews should be wearing crew shirts and must have signed a waiver at NOPI DRIFT Tech and have been issued a wristband to be allowed at starting line area. Further, no more than 3 crewmembers are allowed at the starting line at any one time. No one should stand directly behind cars upon start onto track. All cars should be painted and be in good cosmetic shape to compete. Damaged panels may be repaired for one event only. Final determination is solely at the discretion of NOPI DRIFT staff.
2.14 Jack Stands:
For any vehicles in the pits which must be elevated while running, two jack stands required and rear tires must be at least 7 off the ground for this. A qualified driver must be seated in normal driving position at all times while engine is running or attempting to start.
2.15 Pit Parking:
In order to be eligible for reserved pit parking teams must:
• Have stated their intention at the beginning of the season in writing to compete for the championship.
• Coordinate at least two weeks in advance with the Tech Director or Race Director.
• Be attending the event with an enclosed tractor/trailer or with pop-up tents to appear as professional as possible.
• Have two NOPI DRIFT decals on both the car and the trailer at all times.
• Must raise ramp after dropping car(s)
• Width of trailer including awning must not exceed 25 feet, and hence maximum width of any Pit space is 25 feet.
• In most cases, Pro Pit parking is assigned. Teams are advised to show up on Friday in order to secure better chance of receiving premium parking consideration. If teams park themselves on Friday night after the NOPI DRIFT staff leaves the facility, they may be asked to move the next Morning.
2.16 Two way communications:
Allowed.
2.17 Time between rounds:
Every effort is made to allow a minimum of 45 minutes between practice/qualifying rounds and first two tandem rounds. However, under threat of weather, track curfew or time limits, less time between rounds may be allotted in order to successfully host the event. It is highly recommended that competitors coordinate with Race Control to determine what the event’s goals and time constrictions are on the day of an event. If you miss your run order call, no re-runs or consideration will be given. It is the competitor’s responsibility to know when he/she is competing or supposed to be staged.
2.18 Oil Downs, track debris:
Due to the short time frame in which NOPI DRIFT has to conduct its’ events, those Pro competitors that lose fluids, or in any other way cause the scheduled activities to be delayed to clean the track or remove debris, not inspect it, shall lose 10 points for each oil down per event. This does not count if a car is involved in an accident or runs off course and hurts parts.
2.19 Foul Starts, Passing Competitor:
In accordance with customary guidelines, the first person to commit a false start is warned. If that competitor does this again, he is eliminated regardless of whether or not the other car false starts. While on track, competitor’s are not allowed to pass one another unless lead car has spun, has equipment failure or runs off track. In a case where both competitors pass one another, the driver who made the first pass is out. This only pertains to tandem rounds not hot laps/practice rounds or qualifying rounds.
2.20 Legality of Vehicles:
Every effort is made to ensure that all competitors are reminded that it is their responsibility to conform to all of the NOPI DRIFT requirements. Competitors are strongly encouraged that when building cars that push the limits of the rules, a full disclosure including schematics should be provided to NOPI DRIFT in advance. Failure to do so may result in the car being dis-qualified until further review. Schematics must be sent to NOPI DRIFT TECH. DEPT. via “Certified Mail, return receipt requested.
2.21 Engine Qualification Rule:
Engines cannot be swapped from one car to another prior to the completion of qualifying, unless the engine comes from a vehicle that is no longer being used in competition for that event.
2.22 Scoring equipment failure:
UNLESS one competitor concedes defeat voluntarily, NOPI DRIFT will award the victory at its’ discretion or may choose to re-run the pairing. NOPI DRIFT may choose to review Television tape or video coverage to determine the winner of the run.
2.23 Track Preparation:
Traction varies from track to track and factors such as temperature, humidity and heat index all play a role. Any competitor found to be dropping debris or liquid or any substance or debris that could have an affect on traction for other competitors will not be allowed to run until their issues are addressed to the satisfaction of track staff. NOPI DRIFT is committed to providing exemplary track preparation, but some tracks have access to better preparation equipment, more experienced preparation staff, etc., so variations will continue. Remember: the best competitors know how to tune their suspension for maximum traction in virtually any environment. Teams are strongly encouraged to report any debris or concerns to the track official before their car leaves the start line. Leaving the start line constitutes a team’s acceptance of the track conditions.
2.24 Race Control/Communication:
Every team is very strongly urged to contact the NOPI DRIFT Race Director in the Tower prior to the start of the day’s racing activities. You should ask for clarification on run schedules, staging lane procedures, technical requirements, or the starting line procedures. Failure to do so will mean that the team may not have all the information they need to compete effectively and NOPI DRIFT assumes no responsibility for any inconveniences. NOPI DRIFT shall post a schedule at the base of the tower whenever possible. Participants are urged to examine the schedule prior to asking to speak with the NOPI DRIFT Race Director.
2.25 “Spirit of Competition Rule:
As competition action between dissimilar platforms and configurations typically means disparity in performance and in recognition of the fact that this sport is still in its’ infancy, NOPI DRIFT is compelled to take action so as to ensure a level playing field exists. The July 1 Rule Review process is a practice wherein NOPI DRIFT re-examines rules early on in the season with an eye towards making adjustments in the interests of maintaining a fair and level playing field. Where radical disparity exists, NOPI DRIFT may in its’ sole and absolute discretion take appropriate action.
2.26 Decal Requirements:
The title sponsor’s logos and championship sponsor’s logo are required. All competitors must have these decal’s on the lower hood area, near the grille or headlights.
NOPI DRIFT Banners will be required on the windshield of all cars competing; also two NOPI DRIFT decals must appear on the sides of the cars. Cars that do not comply may be DQ’d.
2.27“Commercially Available Rule:
The term “commercially available is defined simply: the tire in question must have been produced in runs of 500 or more and must still be in production. NOPI DRIFT must be able to call the producer/distributor and order the part in question and have it delivered within 90 days. If the tire does not fit these guidelines, it is ineligible for competition.
2.28 Commercial Business in Pits:
The conducting of commercial business in the pits (i.e., displaying products with the intent to sell) is prohibited unless pre-arranged with the NOPI DRIFT. Contact NOPI DRIFT offices at: 1-800-277-6674 ext 241, or ext 242 for more information.
Section 3: Technical and Equipment Guidelines
3.1 Head Protector:
Any vehicle that utilizes an aftermarket aluminum style racing seat must be equipped with a padded head protector to be placed behind the driver’s head. Any vehicle using an FIA approved racing seat that extends upward past the drivers head (i.e. Sparco, Status, Momo, Racetech) only required to pad the cage.

If the suit is a two piece design then underwear is required. Socks are required and must be made of fire-resistant material. Shoes must be fire resistant and have no holes unless they were originally equipped with them.
3.4 Racing Seats:
Racing seats must be installed in the vehicle. Seats must be properly bolted down to the stock seat mounting locations, a seat bracket or similar. Seats must have a brace attached to the back of the seat and to the roll cage. The seat back support may be attached to bulkheads, firewalls, rear decks, or similar structures of suitable strength if there is not adequate room for the rear crossbar. i.e. In 2 seat cars with the rear firewall directly behind the seats. A typical support would be a 2 inch by 2 inch piece of steel with a thickness of 3/16 inches. The 2 inch plate of steel is then attached to the roll cage by a connecting piece of steel tubing that will be the same diameter and thickness as the cage. No part of the seat support should be sharp or be dangerous to the driver in the event of a crash. Seats that are FIA approved and mounted by FIA standard 8855-1999 or higher do not have to have the back of the seat attached to the roll cage. FIA seats over 5 years old must have the seat support installed.
3.5 Cooling System:
Radiators cannot be mounted outside bodywork. All water-cooled entries must have a 1-pint minimum capacity overflow reservoir hooked to the radiator in such a way so as to ensure no coolant shall be dropped on the track. Reservoirs must be firmly attached to the vehicle using bolts or clamps, and must not have catch cans or coolant lines routed in front of drive wheels.
3.6 Engines/Platforms allowed:
For 2007, new rules and restrictions apply. Please see section 6.1 for approved makes and models list. Review them carefully; any questions please contact NOPI DRIFT Tech Director.
3.7 Chassis and Suspension:
All applicable SFI/SCCA/FIFA regulations as they pertain to the vehicle shall be enforced. Any runs made without applicable chassis or driver credentials shall be disallowed.
A) Rear sub-frame must remain OE.
B) Front spindles may be modified
C) Rear spindles may be modified to accommodate an additional brake caliper only.
D) Upper shock mounts may not be moved.
E) Other suspension pick up points may be moved 2 inches from the original location for cars with manufacturing date before 1/1986. Suspension pick up points may be moved 1 inch from the original location for cars with manufacturing date after 1/1986.

G) Steering components modifications are allowed. Racks may be relocated and spindles may be modified.
H) OE suspension design type must remain the same.
3.8 Exhaust:
Must exit behind the driver, no part of exhaust shall exit in front of the drivers area. Mufflers are required for all cars at all events. The sound level must not exceed 100db at 50 feet, measured when the vehicle is performing on track. Rotary cars should make provisions to add mufflers as needed to meet requirements. The braces will be attached as close to the top of the main hoop as possible and not more than six inches below the top and at least an included angle of 30 degrees. If the rear window or bulkhead prevents installation of the rear braces then the main hoop needs to be attached to the body by attachment plates. These plates shall be welded to the cage and attached to the vehicle by bolting them to the OE shoulder harness mounting points
3.18.5: Side Protection:
A) A single side tube on both the driver’s side and the passenger side door openings is mandatory. This side tube will connect the main hoop to the front down tubes and protect occupants of the vehicle from side impacts.
B) These side tubes may extend into the door.
C) The windows may be removed and replaced with lexan windows with steel frames.
D) If the vehicle is equipped with OE inner door bars then one single side tube is required.
E) If the vehicle is not equipped with an OE inner door bar then 2 sidebars or an X configuration is required.
F) NASCAR-style side protection is recommended.
G) If NASCAR style or similar side protection is used then the window operating mechanism, inside door trim panel and arm rest, and the inside door latch/lock operating mechanism may be removed.
H) If NASCAR style or similar side protection is used then the inner door structural panel may be modified, but not removed.

The antisubmarine strap will be attached to the floor of the vehicle, following the rules for anchoring. The harness components will have a metal to metal connection and have a single release lever that is common to all components of the harness system. A five or six point system is required in cased where the seat is in an upright position.
C) Six point harness systems are required when the driver is seated in a semi-reclining position. A six point system consists of a three inch wide seat belt, three inch wide shoulder straps and three inch wide waist strap and dual 2 inch antisubmarine straps. Two inch wide shoulder straps with three-inch wide professional padding can be used if a Hans device is used.
D) The two anti submarine straps may be mounted in the following ways.
1) They may be directly attached to the floor beneath the driver seat, a structural piece beneath the drivers seat or the lap belt mounting points and pass up in between the legs of the driver and attach to the single release common to the harness system, the lap belt, or the shoulder harnesses.
2) They may be attached to the seat belt or shoulder harnesses so that the driver sits on them, they wrap around the drivers legs, pass up in between them and attach to the single release common to the harness system, the seat belts or the shoulder straps.
E) The harness straps shall be made of nylon, or Dacron polyester, and in new or perfect condition. The buckles must metal to metal and be quick release, except in the case of the two anti submarine leg straps of the six-point system, where they attach to the shoulder harness straps or the seat belt.

G) In cases where the driver is in a semi-reclining position and a 6 point system is used, the angle between the shoulder harness section that runs from the top of the drivers shoulder to the horizontal mounting bar behind the seat will be greater than 70 degrees.
H) Straps must be free to run through clamps, buckles and intermediate loops. If 3 bar adjusters are used they need to be mounted as close to the belt anchoring point as possible. If spring loaded clips that attach to eyebolts are used then a cotter pin or safety wire threaded through a small hole must be used to prevent the spring loaded clip from opening.
I) Grade 5 bolts or better must be used for all mounting points of the harnesses. Seat belts, shoulder harnesses and anti submarine straps should be mounted to the roll structure or frame of the car. If this is not possible then they must be mounted to a solid structure. If they are mounted to a panel of the vehicle then large diameter mounting washers or plates should be used on both sides of the panel to distribute the load. No bolting through aluminum panels will be accepted.
J) The shoulder harness shall be mounted as closely behind the seat back as possible but not more than 12 inches away. The shoulder harness will be mounted in a fashion that the angle between the section of harness that runs between the top of the shoulder and the mounting point is less than 20 degrees below the horizontal but not above the horizontal. The shoulder straps shall pass through the seat to the attachment points without interference.
K) The lap belts mounting points shall be behind the pelvis and between 45 and 65 degrees below the horizontal. The lap belts shall pass through the seat to the attachment points without interference.
L) If two anti submarine straps are used, they shall be mounted behind the point where they wrap around the driver’s legs, and shall pass through the seat to the attachment points without interference. If one anti submarine strap is used, it will be mounted approximately 20 degrees behind the vertical point where it passes through the seat, and shall pass through the seat to the attachment points without interference.
M) Harness systems will be certified to SFI or FIA specifications. The SFI certification is spec 15.1, and the appropriate labeling must be present. The SFI certification will expire on December 31st of the 2nd year after the manufactured date. The FIA Certification is 8853/98, and the appropriate labeling must be present. The FIA certification will expire 5 years after the manufactured date. The expiration date is printed on the FIA labels not the manufactured date.
N) If the harness is cut or frayed, if any of the buckles or eyelets are bent or cracked or if the car has been involved in a severe impact the harnesses will need to be replaced immediately. NOPI officials may cut the labels off the harnesses if they deem necessary.
O) Arm restraints are required in open cockpit cars.

http://www.driftlive.com/dl/category/us-d1gp/ Has the famed “NomuKen’s” name spelled in several places as K. Noruma instead of K. Nomura. I don’t think fans would be willing to start calling him “NoRuKen”. Rots o ruck you racists! Or maybe you’re just disrespectful, arrogant and lazy slimeballs? I guess anything is okay, so long as you have tight rules and are good at exploiting chicks.

Personally I’d like to thank all the drivers for the support that they’ve showed NOPI in the last few months. We are putting our best efforts out to give everyone a series that will benefit the sport of drifting as well as the drivers.
I’d also live to thank driftlive.com for there continued support to the sport of drifting and again if need anything or have any questions, please email me at caleb@nopi.com and i’ll be glad to speak with you.
Thanks everyone!!!

Can you personally name at least 10 Pro drivers in your series? Or at least respectable drivers that have competed and suceeded in at least the top 32 inFD.?” I…Personally…. am very curious…….And if your gonna support the “sport” of drifting…Please, Please, dont call it a “Pro” series. You might want to educate yourself and read a particular post on #^$#@.com (PLUG 1) {What do you think a Pro Driver is?} Oh yeah….. I heard you fired your Operations Director…..H.T.

“Drivers must have proper credentials to compete in NOPI DRIFT EVENT’S. Drivers must show a valid copy of their NOPI DRIFT/FD/D1 Competition license to compete.”

Last I heard, “Pro” was short for Professional. Professional was short for “gettin’ paid”. Looks like the monetary rewards NOPI is offering makes anyone competing for them….professional. I think it’s great that a series like NOPI DRIFT is opening up the playing field for those of us who don’t have rich dads, corporate connections, and aren’t independently wealthy to attempt greatness at whatever level we can.
See you there!
What do you think Mr. Webster?
