The DriftZone Covers Formula D Seattle

July 23rd, 2007 - DriftLive.com

I am a big fan of this episode of this episode. There is literally a ton of drifting footage in this episode with no music or commentary over it. Being able to hear the drivers throttle input is a big part of drifting, and it is much easier with this new editing style. Kudos.

Also in this episode is Vaughn Gittin Jr’s new NA 5.0 liter Hasselgren engine.

  1. I think that Kenji got robbed on that pass. Daijiro did not really leave him any options. It was not like the passes of old where the passing car straightens out in order to make the pass. Kenji passed in full drift. That’s my $.02.

  2. Best Drift Zone episode i’ve seen so far. I enjoy being shown the news, not having the news read to me on camera. I do understand that sometimes interviews and the like are a necessary part, but all that footage was WONDERFUL. Thanks guys!

  4. Hey… was Vaughn holding back tears in the interview??!!??!!

And I do agree that was a clean pass but in FD rules thats not allowed

only if the driver really understeers a opponent can pass… like what happend to chris and tanner.

Kenji could hand braked it to get a close distant in drift without passing. But great driving by kenji overall.

  5. It wasn’t that Kenji’s pass wasn’t legal but that the line he took was not within 90% of the line he used in qualifying. That was the ruling from the judges.

I think the pass was fine and warranted as Dai stayed high on the bank too long and Kenji did not interrupt Dai’s line in this instance. Definitely an arguable call.

Oh yeah…Jr’s new engine is probably one of sickest contraptions I’ve seen in a long time. Is the builder the same as the guys that build Taka’s Corolla motors? If so those guys are pretty diverse! Why didn’t Falken install one of those 2 years ago?
