Rockstar/Nitto Drift Team’s Yoshihara Comes in 5th at Formula Drift Atlanta
Sunday, May 13, 2007 - Atlanta, GA - Daijiro Yoshihara took his Rockstar Energy Drink / Nitto Tire Drift Nissan S13 Silvia to a top 5 finish at the Formula Drift Championship Series event at Road Atlanta on Saturday.
Even under the threat of hail and strong winds, everything about Formula Drift Round 2 was business still as usual. Hampered by rain during his first round of qualifications, Dai was still able to put down a clean run in his Rockstar/Nitto Drift S13 to capture a 4th place qualification.
Dai’s qualifier placement pitted him against number 13 qualifier Casper Canul during the Top 16’s Team X Nissan S14. Casper put up a good fight that necessitated a “One More Time” run. On this second run, Dai took the advantage
and moved on.
During the Great 8 round, Dai faced Irish newcomer Darren MacNamara and his Falken Nissan SR20DET powered AE86 Toyota Corolla. Dai and Darren diced it up with two more too close to call runs that brought Dai to yet another sudden death “One More Time” run. In the end, Dai had to settle with a 5th place overall finish scoring 66 points.
Dai’s 149 point total keeps him in an overall 3rd place standing in the Formula Drift Championship. The team’s next stop will be Formula D Round 3 at Summit Point, West Virginia on June 2nd.
