Long Beach, Calif. – April 22, 2008 – Formula DRIFT’s EZ Lube Team DRIFT competition was held this past weekend in conjunction with the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach. Team Drift Alliance showcased their driving skills and team work to edge out the other teams becoming the first round EZ Lube Team Drift winner.
For the second consecutive year the Team Drift competition was added to the roster of other events taking place for the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach. Thousands of fans came out for this jam packed motorsports weekend and Formula DRIFT was highlighted throughout the 3-days of action.
“Over the last few years with Formula DRIFT being involved with the Long Beach Grand Prix we have seen a rise in the fan base for drifting,” said Jim Liaw, president and co-founder of Formula DRIFT. “Many fans now come specifically to watch the Team Drift event.”
The Team Drift format is different than the traditional tandem competition. Teams of 2 or more vehicles are judged on synchronized drifting along with the standard speed, line, angle, and overall impact by the judges. The judges focused on the 3-turns used in competition last weekend during Round 1: Streets of Long Beach to make their decision as the full street course was utilized for this competition.
Team Drift Alliance consisting of Tony Angelo, Chris Forsberg, and Vaughn Gittin, Jr. held tight lines and slid together in unison to earn the top qualifying position for Sunday’s EZ Lube Team Drift competition. The trio stayed consistent throughout the weekend and took home top honors. Coming in 2nd place was Team Drifting Performance with Tony Brakiohapa, Dan Pina, and Calvin Wan and in 3rd Place was Team CSC with Samuel Hubinette, Conrad Grunewald, and Casper Canul.
